What is a TelesummitA telesummit is an online conference held over the phone. Listeners can join in either by calling a designated phone number with access code or by using their computer and the system you’re using to hold the summit.

Telesummits can be held by one or more hosts and attended by just a few or thousands of people.

Advantages of a Telesummit

The biggest advantage of a telesummit is that everyone can listen in from the comfort of their own homes. As the host, you have little overhead because you don’t have to rent a space to hold all attendees, you don’t have to create paper invitations, nor do you have to provide any snacks and such.

You will most likely pay a monthly fee for the provider you’re using to store your summit and the capacity of listeners you’re expecting to attend by phone. Most of these providers to offer the opportunity to put your account on hold in between summits to save you money there as well.

How Does it Work

Every speaker you invite will be speaking from the comfort of their own home or office space. Often times, telesummits are recorded in advance so you’ll have the ability to edit any calls if necessary.

You may decide to do audio, video or presentation calls. An audio call is done over the phone and recorded to a conference provider you pick. e.g. GoToMeeting or Instant Teleseminar.

If you’re ready to be more personable with your attendees, you may choose to hold video conferences. Your speaker will be on their computer with webcam and you’ll be on your end recording the call.

In the case of a video conference you may decide to add yourself into the picture as well by splitting up the screen.

Another option is by doing an audio call and showing an online presentation. These are generally called webcasts but can also fall in the telesummit category. You will record the interview with your speaker and use voice-over to synchronize it with slides.

How to Attend a Telesummit

As I mentioned earlier, people can either call in or use their computer to join in on the summit. Many times, you will see that summits are pre-recorded. However, you may feel comfortable enough at one point to actually do one live.

It pretty much works the same except that you may want to offer your listeners a special Q&A section at the end of your summit. This will help interact with them and give a personal edge.

People may use their computers to listen in by signing into the conference service you’re using. You will be responsible for sending them the information they need to do this prior to the live event.

As the host you may want to use a headset when you’re recording or doing your live interview. It will make it nice to be hands-free and able to write down any notes for future reference.

Hosting a telesummit is a great way to generate new leads, to build your list and to establish yourself as an expert in your field.

You will find a spike of interaction with new people and will see your business grow exponentially after you’ve held a successful telesummit.

After your summit it’s the trick to keep things going. Just holding a summit will give you that spike but it’s key to stay on top. To read more on what you can do after your summit is over to keep people engaged, please read this article: Keep Subscribers Engaged After Your Telesummit is Over
